2016 DAOU ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON - CLONE 4
Clone 4 is the older of the two inaugural clones featured in the Clonal Series. It is regarded as a heritage clone in Napa Valley, where it was first planted in 1928 by famed vintner Georges de Latour of Beaulieu Vineyard. Clone 4 is also known as the “Mendoza” clone, as it was imported from Argentina by way of Bordeaux.
Deep, luminescent ruby, this Argentinian clone of Cabernet Sauvignon gives a nod to its old-world heritage with aromas and flavors of wild coastal mushrooms, forest floor, and fallen leaves layered with wild blueberry compote, red plum and candied violet. Persistent and well-integrated tannins are balanced with brilliant acidity on the palate that gives way to a long, lingering nish. Flavors are focused in their intensity and beautifully structured, balancing power and finesse throughout the mid palate. A continuing evolution of pure fruit flavors is experienced with this wine’s amazingly long and elegant finish.
