"It’s a serious, structured wine that has plenty of blackberry, smoked meats and peppery herbs as well as full-bodied richness, a great mid-palate and plenty of length." —Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

The Story

Mayote was the nickname of family matriarch Marie Daou, and a term of endearment for her nurturing spirit. Even during the toughest times, Marie was there for her children. She always encouraged them to dream big, setting them on a course that would ultimately lead them to DAOU Mountain. As a blend of Bordeaux and Rhône varieties, Mayote exhibits a unique balance of strength and gracefulness—just like the woman for whom it is named.

Tasting Notes

The 2013 DAOU Estate Mayote is extreme from beginning to end. The wine is intensely pigmented and concentrated in aroma. Graphite and granite-like minerality harmonize with dark spice and aromas of mature blueberry and black plum. Blackberries greet the palate in a bold performance that includes peppercorn, cedar box, tobacco leaf, ash and licorice. The flavors come together for a finish that is unmistakable in depth and complexity. This wine will be remembered for a long time and will bring increased reward and pleasure with a few years of aging.
